Hino Motors, Ltd., commonly known as simply Hino, is a Japanese manufacturer of buses. It has it's main headquarter in Hino-shi, Tokyo.

Hino first started producing buses in Japan in 1946 as Hino Industry Co Ltd.

History of Hino Buses

Hino name was born during World War II. The company dropped the "Heavy" from its name and formally concentrated on the buses markets, as Hino Industry Co., Ltd. The company took its name from the location of its headquarters in Hino city within Tokyo prefecture.

In 1930:- Moving into manufacturing of buses Adopted for Japan's first public route (Ministry of Railways) buses.

In 1937:- The Automobile Division of Tokyo Gas Electric Engineering Co., Ltd., Automobile Industry Co., Ltd. and Kyodo Kokusan K.K. were merged into Tokyo Automobile Industry Co., Ltd.

In 1947:- The release of Japan's first trailer bus was a breath of fresh air for urban transport.

In 1950:- Started production of heavy-duty diesel buses (single-wheel type), release of Japan's first trolley bus.

In 1953:- Japan’s first center under-floor engine bus Release of "Blue Ribbon" box-type bus.

In 1977:- Changed the market for touring coaches Japan's first body-framed touring coach released.

In 1990:- Release of the S'ELEGA touring coach.

In 1991:- Release of world-first hybrid vehicle:- The world's first commercially available hybrid vehicle was released as a urban transit bus.

In 1995:- Full model change for small buses with release of LIESSE SERIES.

In 2002:- HINO BLUE RIBBON CITY Hybrid non-step large-sized route-bus announced. Full model change for touring coaches with Japanese new HINO S'ELEGA announced, in compliance with new (long-term) 2005 regulations on exhaust emissions.

In 2008:- Full model change to the HINO S’ELEGA large touring coach.

In 2010:- Hino provided vehicles for fuel cell hybrid buses operating on public route between central Tokyo and Haneda Airport.

In 2012:- HINO PONCHO electric bus entered pilot service.

In 2016:- 25th anniversary of launch of HIMR Bus hybrid vehicle.

The Hino Blue Ribbon is a heavy-duty single-decker bus marketed from 1982 onwards. The range is primarily available as city bus and tourist coach. It is a complete bus or a bus chassis. The vehicle as only available with right hand drive. The all-in-one developed advanced power line has created an outstanding system that can be optimally controlled from fuel consumption performance, power performance, to operability and comfort.

The Hino Liesse was a minibus which was manufactured from 1995 to 2011. The hino liesse bus models have been manufactured in such a fashion that they comply strictly with the JAPAN’s long term emission regulations.

The Hino Liesse ii is a step-floor minibus manufactured from1995 to 2011. The range was mainly available as a city bus. An electronically controlled 6-speed automatic that brings out the high potential of the power unit smoothly. The Hino Melpha is a medium-duty bus produced in 1998. The range has been primarily available as tourist coach since 1988. The newly adopted A05C engine combines high torque and low fuel consumption at a high level. The body with a full dip cationic electrodeposition coating achieves a beautiful and shiny surface and boasts excellent corrosion resistance. A light and comfortable footwork is realized by optimizing the wheel base while securing a spacious indoor space. Even on narrow roads, turning is good.

The Hino Poncho is a low-floor minibus introduced in 2002. The engine access opening with a wide opening, the use of a slide-type battery carrier and transfer of the sub-battery to the bulkhead at the rear of the room enables efficient daily inspection and maintenance work. In addition, a pump case for the urea tank was installed on the right of the rearmost seat. The body with a full dip cationic electrodeposition coating achieves a beautiful and shiny surface and boasts excellent corrosion resistance.

It was also available for the city bus for the midibus and the tourist coach for the minibus.The range can be built as either a complete bus or a bus chassis.
